Delos

The islands we sailed through included one very near to Mykonos. Mykonos is a very nice place, but obviously heavily dependent on what amounts to herds of tourists trooping off of cruise ships and flowing through the narrow stone and white paint walkways that form the maze that is the tourist district. But that's Mykonos. These pictures are the most lovely island you could possibly imagine. Delos was the lynchpin of Mediterranean trade from around 1000 B.C. to nearly 1 A.D. For a quick read on Delos, use this link: http://www.cyclades-orbit.com/delos/default.asp The entire island is an awesome series of room and houses that you can walk among and view 2,000 year old mosaics, marble works, architecture, and artworks. There is even an M.C. Escher-like tiled floor I found that generated excellent 3-D effects.
